6" Pot Prickly Pear Cactus - Usually comes WITHOUT PADS or with only MINIMUM PADS

*Spineless Opuntia Cactus: Does not have long sharp spines. The tiny glochids (short prickles) can be irritating to the skin if the plant is not handled correctly. When handling the cactus, grab the stalk/pads where it is smooth and waxy, between the glochids; the dots/small bumps on the pads.

Each bare-rooted cactus stalk will come with either no pads or with only a few (typically 1 to 3) pads.  Pads can be gently separated/twisted off of the main stalk and propagated/rooted out in soil to grow additional cactus, or be used as a tasty snack for your hungry arid-dwelling critters!

*The plant pictured is not necessarily the plant you will receive, but will be same size and shape.*

Common Name: Prickly Pear Cactus

Scientific Name: Opuntia cochenillifera

The Dude recommends utilizing this BioShot for desert terrarium plants.

-Care Recommendations By The Dude-

Best for These Animals: Desert and arid dwelling reptiles such as bearded dragons, uromastyx, certain desert snakes, and more!

Bio Dude Substrates: TerraSahara, some TerraAranea

Soil Depth: All soil depths with proper drainage.

Lighting: High.

Humidity & Misting: 0%-40%; none required.

Mature Plant Size & Root System: Opuntia are relatively fast-growing cacti with succulent paddle-like leaves which are very sturdy. The paddles may be easily pruned (and propagated!) as desired.  They have a shallow fibrous root system that may eventually grow mature thick main roots for anchorage.

Temperature Tolerance & Placement in the Terrarium: High heat/drought tolerant. Best used as a background or corner piece.

Edible & Side Effects if Ingested: Non-toxic if consumed, and Opuntia in general are an extremely healthy nutrient source in which you can feed your reptiles. Naturally high in calcium and vitamins, Opuntia is a great option for your omnivores as a supplemental snack and will naturally encourage foraging in your reptiles.  They also produce an edible, bright red fruit (technically a berry).

Pot Size & Packaging: A single Opuntia plant is shipped bare root, wrapped in paper and packaged individually when ordered.

The only balls that have lasted with my dogs.
Color: Orange, Size: Large
I own a Southern Black Mouth Cur and a Belgian Malinois. They have destroyed every other ball I purchased in a matter of minuets, except for these. I will not waste my money on any other brand!! Also come in large and small sizes, for at home backyard play or carrying in a pocket. Okay, so my dogs have now had these balls to play with for months and finally put tiny holes in both. The holes are so small you can't see them, but you can hear air escaping when they chew on them. One actually folded in on itself one time but I was able to pop it right back out, throw it again, and watch my happy aggressive chewer catch it on the first bounce. And they both still bounce well! These Chuck It balls are easy to find if left outside because of their bright orange color, rinse off easily with just water when muddy and grunge covered from outdoor play, or you can use any soap or cleaner you prefer without damaging them. Perfect for any dog, big or small - indoors or outside in the dirt. Love these!!

Won't go through "hurricane" or chain-link fencing - dogs LOVE it.
Color: Orange, Size: Large
We've been using this size (large) for about 2 years now. Between our Doberman pinscher and the boxer-pitbull mix, they are tough on toys. These dogs have access to the Chuckit Ultra balls only under supervision and they run like crazy in the backyard while either fetching or holding onto the balls. It keeps our doberman out of trouble because she's running with a ball in her mouth and therefor cannot nip at the other dog when she gets overly excited. Tennis balls are lucky to last one play session with these guys, just for comparison purposes. When throwing the regular size, the ball occasionally went right through our backyard (chain link aka "hurricane") fence -- even though they shouldn't quite fit. The size large balls bounce off the fence; our only problem now is when one of the dogs does a soccer style head-butt and knocks the ball over the fence that way. After 2 years, one ball has a split down the side and two are discolored because they were left outside when we couldn't locate them after a play session. Overall I like these very much and appreciate how well they've held up.
